About Rachel’s Bears
The program started as a campaign in 2019 dedicated to providing cheer to children as they receive care in hospitals in memory of Sweet Alexa who lost her battle with pediatric brain cancer in 2015. Sponsorships were collected and donations were made by ways of books and bears to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in September 2019, 2020, and 2021 in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. In 2022, the program pivoted with the passing of our dear lifelong friend Rachel Williams, a pediatric nurse at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. In September of 2022, the program started a wonderful relationship with Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital to donate the books, bears and the financial proceeds of the campaign to their hospital in memory of Rachel Williams. With the creation of a 501 c (3) organization called Rachel’s Bears, it is our mission to continue to move this program forward in memory of both Alexa and Rachel in hopes to bring smiles to children year-round as they are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide.
